Inside Scoop--Video Content Bridge "Wider" Coming Soon from Vydeo Integrated Systems
It is my understanding that Vydeo Integrated Systems, Inc. (vydeo.com) is close to announcing their Wider product, which they will tout as the industry's first Video Content Bridge (VCB). [...] I think the announcement target is prior to MacWorld/CES time frame. Their marketing brochure reads: "While the market is cluttered with video converters, DVRs and PVRs, Wider is the first true bridge - the first VCB - between your video content and your personal video player."
The Steve calls the 5G iPod "wide," so Vydeo named their device "Wider." It will accept a couple of video formats / sources, e.g., s-video and composite; rescale and convert (with very high quality) to a video iPod acceptable H.264 format; and, either stream to a 5G iPod or to an external USB HDD attached to one of two high speed USB2.0 ports. Stand-alone product, all functions done automatically, and H.264 conversion in real time.
It will be relatively low cost and low profile.
This is exactly what's needed! The news is an awesome Christmas present for Mac users, I wish the product would have been ready in time. People have proven over and over again that they don't want to put a computer in their family room, and this'll hit the mark perfectly.
We look forward to seeing this product from vydeo.com. [Bill Fox]
