Cool Mac Software--Alsoft released DiskWarrior 4 (Universal)

Finally, Alsoft completed its work on a new version of DiskWarrior that will work on Intel-based Macs. DiskWarrior 4 (Universal) includes these new features:

  • Universal Binary
  • Significantly faster than previous versions
  • Repairs invalid file permissions
  • Includes an additional suite of file and folder tests, to find problems before they cause you trouble
  • Identifies corrupted Preference (.plist) files
  • Recovers more data from drives with hardware malfunctions
  • Detects and repairs more disk problems than ever
  • Repairs and rebuilds FileVaults
  • Fully supports case-sensitive file names
  • Repairs and rebuilds Attribute B-trees
  • Repairs Access Control Lists (ACLs)
  • Plus a lot more!

DiskWarrior 4 is available as a download or on a bootable CD for $99.95. An upgrade from the previous version of DiskWarrior is available only on a bootable CD for $49.95 plus $8.95 S&H--ordering requires the entry of your existing copy's serial number. DiskWarrior only works on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.x and on Macs shipping up to 11/28/06..

We ordered a copy of the upgrade CD since DiskWarrior has saved our files several times. Since we use FileVault on our 'Books, we are especially pleased that DiskWarrior 4 will repair and rebuild FileVault files. Unfortunately, Alsoft estimates that it will take 3-4 weeks to receive the CD, an extraordinary amount of time for a shipping product but usual for Alsoft. [Dana Baggett & Bill Fox]
