Brief Hands-On Report--Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3
Apple released Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3 and it is available via Software Update and as a stand-alone updater from this Apple Web page. According to Apple,
This update fixes several issues to improve the stability of Mac Pro (Early 2008) computers.
After the firmware is successfully applied to your computer, your Boot ROM Version will be: MP31.006C.B05
You can confirm the version of the Boot ROM installed on your computer using System Profiler.
I used Software Update to install the firmware update on my 2.8GHz dual quad-core Mac Pro. Following the install, I shutdown the Mac Pro and pressed and held the power button until it flashed rapidly. Then, a tone was sounded and a progress bar appeared. Following the successful update, I checked the BootROM version and it is now MP31.006C.B05.
In several hours use, no problems were encountered. I hope it fixes the problem of my Mac Pro automatically rebooting on waking it from sleeping overnight. I could get rid of the problem with a PRAM reset but the problem eventually returned. [UPDATE: This morning my Mac Pro awakened from sleep normally, i.e. without the reboot as it has been doing.] [Bill Fox]
