Apple's "Surprise and Shine" Event is Today--iPhone 18 Pro, a Folding iPhone, and John Ternus's First Keynote

Apple's fall event starts at 10 a.m. Pacific today, streamed from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park and carried on apple.com, the Apple TV app and YouTube. The invitation, sent August 26, carries the tagline "Surprise and Shine" over a glowing Apple logo, and it is the first keynote for John Ternus, who took over as CEO on September 1.

What to expect, per the rumor mill: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max on a 2nm A20 Pro chip with a variable-aperture main camera and larger batteries, priced $100 to $300 above the 17 Pro models, and Apple's first folding phone, a book-style device with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display, Touch ID in the side button, and a starting price around $2,000 according to MacRumors and AppleInsider. The standard iPhone 18 is not expected until spring, a split-launch strategy 9to5Mac says Apple is adopting this year.

Also on the likely list: Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 with a new processor, AirPods 5 on an H3 chip, and possibly a 7-inch Home Hub display. TechRepublic puts the foldable at $2,099 and up. Apple should also announce the release dates for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27, which TidBITS expects the week of September 14.
