BMUG

Reader Chuck Heath sent me more info on the situation with the Berkely Macintosh User Group (BMUG):
"After performing the first complete inventory and audit in the organization's history, BMUG's new Board of Directors and new Executive Director have decided on the following course of action:

1) BMUG, the world1s largest Macintosh users group, is a viable and necessary organization that will continue to serve its 10,000 members worldwide;
2) BMUG will continue to provide Planet BMUG, our Web site, newsletter content, main meetings and SIGs;
3) BMUG has reduced staff and reduced public access to our offices in order to streamline our operations and focus on our mission of sharing information.

In the past BMUG was slow to respond to changing conditions, and our "business as usual" was just not good business. We are changing the way we do business to create a financially sound, customer service oriented, non-profit organization. The brand spanking new Board of Directors and our spiffy new Executive Director are hard at work developing a solid financial plan, a marketing plan to increase the BMUG membership, and new programs to provide even better benefits to our members.

BMUG is in the business of sharing information. We intend to continue to do so. In our 14th year of operation, it's time for BMUG to refocus its efforts to better answer the changing needs of its 10,000 members and the Mac community.

The bottom line is BMUG LIVES!

Over the next few months BMUG will need the continued support of our members and volunteers. After this short--term regrouping, BMUG will be even better at the business of sharing information.

To find out how you can "Help BMUG," check the BMUG Web site at www.bmug.org or the Planet BMUG BBS. Tax deductible contributions should be sent to: HELP BMUG, 1442A Walnut Street #62, Berkeley, CA 94709-1496.

BMUG is a vital community!
