Editorial Comment

Editorial Comment -- Readers reported this past week that some CompUSA's with the new Apple store inside are putting in a good effort to make it successful, thereby adding to their revenues and customer base. Those stores are identified with an "X" in the Mac-Friendly column of Macs Only's CompUSA Watch page. However, readers have also continued to report overhearing CompUSA employees assigned to the Apple store-in-a-store steering potential Mac customers to the PC department from the outset by disparaging Apple and providing erroneous/biassed answers to questions. Given the good efforts that are being made, this behaviour would seem to reflect either a local manager problem or employee ignorance or bias rather than CompUSA policy. [As an aside, I continue to be amazed that there are people who actually seem to hate Apple and its technology and openly work for its demise.] Since those CompUSA's have reasonably well-stocked Mac shelves, they are among those with Apple stores but without an "X" in the Mac-savvy or Mac-Friendly columns. It will take some time to overcome these types of employee problems and I have forwarded the readers' observations to my friends at Apple. As a final note, the incorrect signage on PowerMac G3-233's noted yesterday seems fairly common and is most likely a CompUSA misprint that has been corrected subsequently on the signs as noted by readers.
