MacWEEK described the new Apple G3 PowerBooks due out in May:
  • Main Street
    • 233 MHz/12" Passive/32MB RAM/2 GB HD/20x CD -- $2,400
    • 250 MHz/12" Active/32 MB RAM/3 GB HD/20x CD/56K modem/Ethernet -- $3,600
  • Wall Street
    • 250 Mhz/13" Active/32 MB RAM/4 GB HD/20xCD/56K modem/Ethernet -- $4,600
    • 292 Mhz/14" Active/64 MB RAM/5 GB HD/20x CD/56K modem/Ethernet -- $6,300
Henry Norr has some excellent points on Apple pricing. Of course, Apple does have computers on the market in the $1000-2000 range but they are discontinued or essentially so like the 4400/200, 6500/225, 7300/180 and 7300/200. These are excellent computers and represent great value while they last. However, I'm really surprised that the 6500/250,275,300 remain priced the same as the G3 models. Add to that surprise the fact that one can get a well-equipped 300 MHz Pentium II IBM for ~$2,400.
