new Macs and clones

  • Some terrific new Macs and clones have been announced and here is MacWEEK's review of Apple's 300/350Mhz 8600/9600 offerings that are actually shipping. Here's one on Motorola's 6000 series that even looks better but not yet shipping. Neither is PowerComputing's PowerTower Pro 275 using the newer PC750 CPU. The new cache technology, faster system bus and G3 CPU's really look super. I also note that PCC has bumped its PowerCenter Pro to a 604e/240Mhz with its currently fastest 60 Mhz system bus in any Mac or clone. Unfortunately, once again Apple seems behind the clones in employing the leading edge of these technologies. Even more unfortunately, Apple is rumored to be using its certification process to get even--I hope not.
