~30 Pre-startup delay

From Daryl Hansen:

"MauiMail Co. of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii has launched it's own, free, web based, email service this week. MauiMail Co. has built their service around a 100% pure Apple Macintosh environment with MacOS 8.1 and the TeleFinder 5.6 Web Server from Spider Island Software. User registrations have been more than doubling every day. You may want to check their web site out at www.MauiMail.com. The service is simple, fast, and very easy to use, just like the Macintosh. MauiMail Co. say they are very excited about Apple Computer's recent innovations and new direction. A full migration to Apple's upcoming operating system, Rhapsody, is apparently part of the plan.

MauiMail Co. of Kihei, HI., can be reached at (808) 879-4589, fax (808) 891-0670 or email."

Let Microsoft have HotMail all to itself!

From reader Tom Mackie:

"As you can see below, Communicator 4.04.1 installer is still installing ObjectSupportLib under System 8.0. You'd think by now they'd get it right...

from the file Installer Log:

Installed Netscape Communicator* Folder:NetHelp:Blank.htm
Installed Duo HD I:System Folder:Extensions:ObjectSupportLib
Installed Duo HD I:System Folder:Extensions:npacrx_ppc.Lib
Installed Duo HD I:System Folder:Extensions:sx8300.Lib
Thursday, January 22, 1998 4:05 PM
The installation is complete."

That kind of nails it down.

More new Apple stores in CompUSA stores sighted: Tulsa (David Freeland), Westminster ~Denver (Eric Kessner) and Norfolk, VA (Steven Korman). The biggest complaint still remains--NO SALESPEOPLE! Curiously, as the number of Apple stores in CompUSA's have increased, the number of Macs in CompUSA ads have decreased, mostly to zero--everywhere! Even where they have Apple stores.

Apple's Mac OS Software and Hardware Guide has been updated.
