Internet Explorer 4.0 Feedback

Many people wrote me that they have problems with Java resulting in application-quits and subsequent double shut down problems (DSDP) if running Mac OS 8.1. I rarely have this happen but I've allocated IE4 some 16 MB of RAM (I use 24 MB for Netscape) and maybe don't hit the heavy Java pages much. Others wrote me about their fear of the Gates syndrome (dominate then stifle innovation). This worries me too so I hope Netscape fixes the DSDP ASAP! Jim Stoneburner pointed out that one can get a bookmark window instead of a pull-down menu in Netscape with command-B just like a mouse click on the Favorites icon in IE4. He also pointed out that I had forgotten about the floating or docked windoid with a mail icon in Netscape Communicator that opens Messenger with a click--scratch that "advantage" for IE4.

From Frank Reiff, PublicSpace v1.2 is out. "PublicSpace is a groupware system that expands Macintosh file sharing to better support group work. It is the simplest way of creating a Macintosh intranet.It allows its users to quickly annotate files and folders, exchange files and messages, organise shared resources, find out what is going on in the shared workspace [and] create central repositories, discussion groups, simple workflows, etc."

The two-week-long rumored PowerMac G3 price cuts of $300-500 were available starting yesterday at the Apple Store Online. This brings a G3 down to $1,699 list!
