Mac Users, Flood the Stores!

CompUSA announced that it will celebrate the opening of all 149 Apple stores in CompUSA's on Saturday 3/14 and Sunday 3/15. Apple representatives will be on hand Sunday to demonstrate Apple's products and software like Microsoft Office 98. MSO98 is really terrific as I've posted several times before--check it out.

"A new 'Grass Roots' effort has been launched by way of a formal petition to Apple Computer, Inc. regarding the issue of licensing the Cyberdog source code to Kantara Development.

Kantara is on the verge of releasing a new Web Browser Part 'Blake' for Cyberdog. The Beta is due to be available in mid March 1998. Blake will be a much needed update to the browser part that will allow many new internet features be made available to Cyberdog and bring the browser part features up to and beyond the likes of Netscape and IE.

Kantara had been negotiating in good faith with Apple for almost a year to license the Cyberdog source code to provide enhancements, bug fixes (which are few) and to keep the Cyberdog suite of applications in front as the best internet software suite available on any platform.

Apple has since "changed its mind" regarding the licensing of the source code. We need to get Apple to "Think Different" about this issue. We have initiated the OpenDoc/Cyberdog Source Licensing Petition located at: http://www.pcsincnet.com/petition.html.

MacCentral reported that Toshiba announced an adapter, FlashPath, that will directly read digital camera SmartMedia cards via floppy drives. This technology brings all kinds of uses to mind.

MacInTouch 3/11 posted a bug report sent to Apple by a reader on the double shut down problem, covered on Macs Only! since the release of Mac OS 8.1. The reader tied it to Open Transport 1.3 which has been suspected as the root of the problem since its beginning. I get DSDP every time after using Netscape Communicator's Messenger email and but also every time after an application has quit unexpectedly. I'm not sure that it is just Open Transport. I think it results from any action that puts files in the system folder's invisible Temporary Items folder.
