The strong encryption edition (128K bit) of Netscape Communicator v4.0.4.1 (10 MB) is out.

I installed the standard (base) version and it did install the wicked ObjectSupportLib v1.2 on my 9600 running Mac OS 8.1. The OSL installation is insideous because OSL didn't show up in Extensions Manager--it was in the extensions folder and the installation log file lists it being installed there. OSL is integrated in Mac OS 8 and 8.1 so a separate extension can wreak havoc.

The 56K modem draft standard was approved by the ITU on Thursday. Dana Baggett supplied this link to a ZDNet article which states that modem companies will be issuing firmware upgrades immediately but many ISPs may wait for confirming interoperability tests. The final formal approval of the standard is expected in September. Here's the NEWS.COM story.
