AirPort Review Feedback

Wow! A lot of email. There sure is lots of interest in Apple's AirPort wireless networking. Many readers stated that they were glad to finally read a positive experience. Most of the readers mentioned that they also had no problems setting up the AirPort Base Station (ABS) which is very comforting. In addition, the iBook list members mostly have reported success.

Several readers suggested improvements to my combination wired/wireless network discussed in the review. Here's a couple that may work for some of you:

1. Use the ABS as a router and eliminate IPNetRouter by connecting the cable modem directly to a hub rather than through my G3. However, since I am on a cable modem, not xDSL, I don't want my entire network showing to the cable service and everyone on my neighborhood loop. Routing through the G3 also prevents service disconnects due to excessive "chatter" from the print server.

2. Eliminate the double translation by using the ABS as a bridge to the wireless portion rather than as a DHCP server to it. I am going to try this.
