Hands On-Report--Flip4Mac WMV Player 2.2.0.49b Installation & Use

Flip4Mac WMV Player is a free QuickTime plugin that allows any QuickTime application or a Web browser, including Safari, to play Windows Media Player files (.wma and .wmv). It is still a beta but version 2.2.0.49beta is out. It is available for download within the preference pane or via MacUpdate.com or from the Flip4Mac Web site.

Here are the changes:

• Improved support for MMS servers and live streams
  
• Improved compatibility with many different web sites
  
• Removed the user enabled "Create Streaming Movies" preference
  
• Added support for manual Deactivation/Reactivation
  
• Fixed potential security issue reported by Drew Yao where an attacker could potentially cause a security issue by deliberately malforming WMV files

We downloaded the updater because we could not get it to update from within the preference pane on our MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. It installed without any problems and no issues were encountered with brief use. [Bill Fox]
