Oct. 23-24 Mac OS 9 Demo Days--Sigh

Well, there was no real fanfare in the papers or Sunday store flyers here in Northern Virginia. Even though each store had Mac OS 9, each store (CompUSA and MicroCenter) that I and reader Bill Jensen visited Saturday and Sunday had a few lookers and at least one Apple Rep on duty answering questions but with little or no hardware product (iBook, new iMac and G4) available, a lot of fanfare would have been wasted. Each had a few new iMacs in boxes but only three stores had a new iMac on display, one locked out because they didn't know the password. One reader reported no Mac OS 9 in stock in an indifferent Freehold NJ CompUSA.

Here's Chris Turkel's Sears report: "Despite the fact at my Sears discounted the remaining stock of iMacs that they had (333 mMHz version) from $1199 to 899, not a unit moved. I did demonstrate both it and the iBook alot on Saturday but very little today (slow throughout the whole store). This seems mostly because (a) an indifferent sales staff due to low comissions as I noted last time and (b) a Compaq is going for $299. I cannot wait until the new iMacs arrive (I was told my Sears will have all three "tiers" in stock next week.)"
