Positive Mercury G3 CPU ZIF Reports
From Dennis Najuch, "I installed the "Mercury CPU ZIF In XLR8 Carrier ZIF" in my
8600/300. It is a 366 MHz chip clocked to 392 MHz, backside set to 195.9
software default. System Bus at 49 MHz. This is with the latest software
version from XLR8. There have been no printer problems (as reported)
running an Epson 1520 and Birmy Power RIP latest version. I have not
had any problems with anything to date in 2 weeks of running. There is
288 MB interleaved RAM installed. I did have some problems until I
figured out what was going on with the DIP switches on that included
chart since that chip has no jumpers. OWC 's supplement should help. The
upgrade is great and well worth the $429 I paid for it." Frank Connelly, whose note I originally posted last weekend, wrote that OWC replaced his Mercury CPU ZIF/CarrierZIF and it works great in his PowerBase 180. The problem was a CPU damaged during shipping. He also commended OWC's technical support. [OWC has a Mercury CPU ZIF on the way to test in my PowerBase 180.--Bill]
