Apple Disk First Aid v8.6

, an update from v8.5.5, is available for download from Apple's ftp server. From the "About" file: "This version of Disk First Aid repairs some kinds of damage to Mac OS Extended volumes that have become extremely fragmented and fail to start up. Disk First Aid 8.6 also improves the compatibility of Mac OS Extended format hard disks with Mac OS X." We had a problem with the installer on an original iBook running Mac OS 9.0.4. The installer refused to work stating that the computer had to be running Mac OS 9.0.4 which, of course, it was. So we just copied Disk First Aid v8.6 to the iBook rather than running the installer. DFA 8.6 worked fine on the iBook. We did not encounter this problem with an iMac DV SE, PowerBook (FireWire), Power Mac G4 (AGP), Power Mac G3 B&W and Power Mac 7300. However, every computer except the iBook had at least one hard drive that was formatted while running Mac OS 9.0.4 and each one reported a Wrapper System file error which DFA 8.6 fixed.
