DirecPC with VPC 3.0?
The answer is yes according to a post on Accelerate Your Mac!. Hughes Electronics, the marketer of internet by satellite DirecPC, has been excoriated numerous times on Macs Only! for providing internet access via a proprietary PCI card that only works with Windows. However, DirecPC now has a USB modem as an alternative as pointed out to me by Alan Wood. A note posted on Accelerate Your Mac! by Bob Crites states that he is using DirecPC with the USB modem on his B&W G3 via Virtual PC 3.0 running Windows 98. Bob does not mention the performance, only that it works. If the performance is significantly better than a 56K modem, then this is a potential solution for those with no access to cable or DSL. Better yet, will someone write a Mac driver? One could certainly make a bit of money doing so.
