Update Mac OS 9 (9.0.4) is Out

Apple released v9.0.4 update to Mac OS 9 late yesterday after Macs Only! on Monday night, followed by other Mac web sites yesterday, noted that v9.0.4 was included with MicroMat's TechTool Pro v2.54 CD that subscribers received on Monday. It is available via the Software Update control panel and via Apple's Software Updates archive (12.2 MB). No luck here yet with the control panel but the Software Updates archive worked fine and Dana Baggett was able to get his copy via the control panel about 4:30p yesterday.

Update Mac OS 9 provides additional FireWire and USB support, enhances networking and power management, and improves audio, video and graphics functionality. From 9.0, v9.0.4 updates the following control panels: Apple Menu Options, Energy Saver, Keyboard, Software Update, Sound and Startup Disk. plus the following extensions: ATI graphics, Audio, CD/DVD Driver, FireWire, infrared group, Open Transport, OpenGL, Sound Manager, Voice Verification and many others.

I installed it without incident on a PowerMac G4 (AGP), 7300, PowerBase and PowerBook 2400c. However, I couldn't get it to work on my B&W G3. It stalled during the hard disk drive update. I unchecked this option and 9.0.4 installed but froze on the restart with the desktop still showing. After using the restart button to reboot, the B&W still wouldn't shut down or restart. Launching 9.0.4's Drive Setup v1.9.2 resulted in endless searching for the drives and had to be force quit. I suspect the Orange Micro 930U SCSI card recently updated with firmware v1.28 but I haven't had the time to investigate it.

After installing 9.0.4 Dana Baggett couldn't get a CD to eject at startup from his iMac 350 SL by pressing the mouse button.
