Firmware/Disabled RAM Issue--Our Final Chapter
Yesterday, we received a properly programmed replacement 256 MB SO-DIMM for our PowerBook 2000 from MemoryX as promised. Our saga began when we installed Apple Firmware Update v4.1.8 on our PowerBook on 3/23, the eve of the release of Mac OS X, and discovered the RAM chip was no longer recognized. We contacted MemoryX on Saturday and to their credit they agreed to replace it right away and did. Unfortunately, the cause of the problem had not yet been identified and the replacement RAM chip had the same problem as the original. Once the problem had been identified, a lack of CL3 instructions in the EEPROM, MemoryX contacted us to return the replacement chip for the chip we just received. We are satisfied and will not hesitate to buy from MemoryX again.
