Remember the Osborne?

It was one of the first PCs and was made by Adam Osborne. Here is a ZDNet remembrance. The Osborne was highly successful but he made the huge mistake of announcing a new model while he still had plenty of the old model in stock and went bankrupt. This is the mistake that Steve Jobs is reported to have sworn to never make. This largely explains why Apple is so secretive about new models. [Dana Baggett]

[Update] DOJ/States Ask Appeals Court to Not Delay Mandate Issuance in M$ Case according to this SiliconValley.Com article. Okay, let's review the bidding. Microsoft (M$) was convicted in US District Court in DC of multiple antitrust violations but appealed that and its punishment of being divided into halfsies. The Appeals Court vacated the punishment and some of the counts but left M$ a convicted illegal monopolizer and remanded the punishment back to a different District Court judge to decide. Are you with me? DOJ/States then asked the Appeals Court to speed up handing the case back to District Court and M$ asked the Appeals Court to not do that but to review its decision. The Appeals Court said no to the requests of both parties. Then M$ filed an appeal to the Supreme Court and asked the Appeals Court to go slow on sending the case back to District Court to reconsider the punishment, the opposite of what DOJ/States had asked and were rebuffed. Now, of course, the DOJ/States have asked the Appeals Court not to do that and go ahead and send the case to District Court because M$ has no chance on its appeal to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile M$ rocks along with its planned Windows XP release schedule and Windows XP may well violate some or all of the issues that M$ was convicted on. [Dana Baggett]
