Apple Remains Rare, A Profitable Computer Company

while HP and Compaq have lost $1 billion, as has Gateway, last year and are on their way to big red ink figures again this year according to the October 28, 2002, Fortune.com article. IBM has barely broken even. Dell has remained profitable like Apple since it is a company designed to compete on price. However, all including Dell are moving into products other than computers to stay alive in the current market situation. [Dana Baggett]

SockhoCurrenciesConverter is a $5.95 shareware (localized in English and French). The rates are constantly updated via the internet. A demo is available that has half the currencies (including the US dollar) grayed out.

[Update 9 am 10/12] Quake III Arena X v1.32t4 Updater is Out and available for download via MacUpdate.com. The 132 point release has been updated daily so far. id Software's server is swamped but keep trying. We got our copy on about the 10th try.
