Apple will Open a Store in NYC

, Soho to be exact according to this Apple Retail web page. The store will open on July 18, our EIC's birthday, during Macworld NYC 2002. "The grand opening of the Apple Store SoHo on July 18 kicks off a month-long celebration of all you can do on a Mac. See the variety of special events and ongoing presentations coming to this newest and biggest Apple store."
