Dell Service Story, The (Interim) Conclusion

We keep reading "horror" stories on other web sites about AppleCare so yesterday we posted the first part of a story on Dell service. Here is the sequel from Dana Baggett,

"For those of our readers who might wonder if the service rep did come to fix my neighor's Dell Wednesday, he did. (Never underestimate the power of a little old lady who is mad as Hell.)

"But, the Dell Dude managed to explain with a straight face that it was really her fault that the hard drive crashed. Yup. She was still using the same surge protector that she had used for her old Pentium 486. 'You know, when you get a much more powerful computer you need to get a bigger surge protector,' he said.

"My neighbor was somewhat mystified by this diagnosis. (I decided not to point out that there hasn't been any power surges that have rippled through our neighborhood recently. My electric clocks haven't missed a beat and my APC Back-UPS Pro that protects my Macs hasn't squawked. Discretion also prompted me not to mention that Dell didn't included a surge protector in the $799 deal she bought so how can it be her fault.) But, she will dutifully buy a new, 'more powerful' surge protector anyway.

"Only in the land of Dell."

We expect that the Dell Dude will be back again and again.
