Follow Up--"Fastest Mac on the Planet" Concept
We don't know at what price point the concept is economically feasible. By guaranteeing and selling the upgrades it seems to us that Apple might be able to double its profit or more on every sale to those who keep their Macs for 2-3 years, probably the norm. Certainly those potential buyers who are afraid of "obsolescence" in 6 months or less would lose their inhibition to buying.
But is the concept technologically feasible? Apple would have to freeze certain technology for several years to allow for the guaranteed upgrades. This may be the biggest hurdle since technology in personal computing changes so rapidly.
Still, we hope that Apple takes note of the interest and takes a close look at the feasibility of producing the "Fastest Mac on the Planet", either as a Cube or as some new design.
