From the Dark Side--Possible Horror of All Horrors!

According to this Seattle Times article, the federal government is considering the use of Microsoft's Passport technology for authentication purposes in doing business with the US government over the internet. With its monopoly and inherent security holes that would make any organized crime boss chortle in delight, it seems to us that considering Microsoft software for anything in this time of heightened national security has got to be the epitome of being reckless. But, of course, Seattle is Microsoft's home town so who knows. [Charles Gaba]
