Apple's AirPort Extreme Standards Approved
according to this CNet article. Apple's new and faster AirPort Extreme wireless base station and cards have been operating on the draft standard for 802.11g or fast Wi-Fi since their release at Macworld 2003 SF in January. The new standard allows for much faster wireless network transfers, theoretically up to 5 times as fast as the original AirPort standard of 802.11b. The standards committee will now start work on the next standard, 802.11n, which is likely to be at least double the speed of the standard just approved.
