From the Dark Side--M$ Answers MA in Continued Antitrust Lawsuit

After West Virginia announced on Monday that it was selling out to Microsoft, only Massacheusetts remained in the appeal of the penalty settlement to M$'s antitrust conviction. MA wants stiffer but reasonable penalties like unbundling middleware from Windows. This would preclude M$ from leveraging its monopoly of PC operating systems to kill competition. We think this is a bare minimum to restore and maintain competition in computer applications. We like Judge Jackson's original penalty of dividing M$ into two companies, one for Windows and one for applications. [Dana Baggett]
