From the Dark Side--M$ Answers MA in Continued Antitrust Lawsuit
according to this PC World article. After West Virginia announced on Monday that it was selling out to Microsoft, only Massacheusetts remained in the appeal of the penalty settlement to M$'s antitrust conviction. MA wants stiffer but reasonable penalties like unbundling middleware from Windows. This would preclude M$ from leveraging its monopoly of PC operating systems to kill competition. We think this is a bare minimum to restore and maintain competition in computer applications. We like Judge Jackson's original penalty of dividing M$ into two companies, one for Windows and one for applications. [Dana Baggett]
