Microsoft Liable for Worm/Virus Damage?
Not today. The EULA (End User License Agreement) included with software is basically a get out of jail free card according to this CNet article. However, that may change as viruses cause increased damage and pressure to change the EULA. If software manufacturers we held liable for damage resulting from bugs or a lack of security, software would improve dramatically. However, it is likely that upgrades would be fewer and farther between and more costly. That doesn't sound like such a bad deal to us. [Dana Baggett]
