VPI's Big Mac G5 Supercomputer Moves into Third Place

according to the Saturday's data from the University of Tennesee (see Table 3). The 1100 Power Mac dual 2-Ghz G5 cluster (2200 CPUs) at Virginia Tech has churned out 9.6 TeraFLOPS (Rmax) versus 35.9 TF from the Japanese government's Earth Similator with 5190 CPUs and Lawrence Livermore Lab's 8160 CPU Linux cluster at 13.9 TF. VPI's data is with only 2112 CPUs working in the cluster.
