Brief Hands-On Report--Apple AirPort Extreme Driver v3.4.2

is out and available for download via the Software Update preference pane if one has an AirPort Extreme card installed [If not, it still appears in the SU preference pane if run manually]. No stand-alone update was available at publication time. According to the ReadMe file:

This software update provides improved AirPort Extreme wireless networking software and is recommended for all customers with an AirPort Extreme enabled computer.

• Enhanced networking reliability during certain memory intensive operations

Presumably this driver fixes the dropped connection issue with Macs having more than 1 GB RAM and using AirPort Extreme. We downloaded and installed the new driver on our 17" PowerBook G4 using AirPort Extreme and ran into no problems but we have only 1 GB RAM. We still get a 4-arc signal in the menu icon (13 of 15 bars in the Internet Connect application) from both an Extreme and Snow AirPort Base Station at 30 feet. [Update 1a EDT: Early reports indicate that this updater does indeed fix the problem of dropped AirPort Extreme connections for Macs with more than 2 GB RAM.]
