From the Dark Side--Intel Reverses Course on 64-bit CPU
After Apple (IBM actually) and AMD produced CPUs for desktop computers and servers capable of 64-bit processing, Intel maintained that 32-bit CPUs were all that were needed for the forseeable future. According to this New York Times article on Excite, Intel has reversed course and now says it will begin building 64-bit capability into its Xeon CPUs used in lower end servers. [Dana Baggett]
