Inkjet Printers Wasting Ink?

Some people think so in order to force the sale of more expensive ink cartridges than are really needed. Especially egregious are printers from Epson and Canon and some from HP that quit printing when ink gets low even if there is still ink left. PC World tested several inkjet printers: a Canon i850 Color Bubble Jet Printer, a Dell A940 Printer, an Epson Stylus C84, a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet 6122, and a Lexmark Z65 Color Jetprinter. They found that the Epson quit with 20% left and the Canon quit with 10% left. The others continued to print past the low ink warning until most all of the ink was gone. However, the article says that all printers delivered approximately the number of pages per cartridge that the manufacturer claims. [Dana Baggett]
