Apple Dropped Leaker Legal Action Against Mac Web Sites
Without comment, Apple decided not to appeal the ruling from the California Appeals Court granting Jason O'Grady, Kaspar Jade and Monish Bhatia an injunction against an Apple subpoena for their email involving an unannounced Apple product called "Asteroid", a music breakout box. O'Grady and Jade had posted allegedly purloined confidential documentation on the unannounced Apple product and Apple had sought their email involving the product from their ISPs via a subpoena to see who leaked the information. Bhatia provided a hosting service for Jade's Web site.
This is probably a wise PR move for Apple and very good news for O'Grady, Jade and Bhatia. The case also clarified that online journalists deserve legal protections similar to print and broadcast journalists, so that is also a very good result. More... [Bill Fox]
