Brief Hands-On Report--Microsoft Office v.X for Mac 10.1.8 Update
This update contains several updates to enhance security and stability, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code. It applies to: Office v. X, Microsoft Word X for Mac, Microsoft Excel X for Mac, Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac, Microsoft Entourage X for Mac.
The improvement details are:
All Office X Applications: Security is improved--This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office v. X that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.
Word X: Properties are retained in large documents--This update fixes an issue that causes some document properties to be lost when you open and save a document that contains a large number of document properties, such as documents that contains more than 55 headings. This issue affects only users who have installed the Office v. X 10.1.7 Update.
Entourage X: Japanese postal code dictionary is updated--The Japanese postal code dictionary is updated with the latest information as of June 2006.
We downloaded the 10.1.8 Update and updated our copy of Office v.X. Much of the day yesterday we used the updated Word X, PowerPoint X and Excel X for various tasks and encountered no problems. We haven't used Entourage X since Mac OS X 10.1 came out. [Bill Fox]
