Brief Hands-On Report--Mozilla released Thunderbird 1.5.10

Mozilla released v1.5.10 update to its stand-alone email client, Thunderbird. It is available within the application automatically (if set) or via "Check for Updates..." under the Help menu or as a stand-alone updater downloaded from this Mozilla Web page. According to Mozilla v1.5.10 has stability improvements and security fixes which are:

• MFSA 2007-06 Mozilla Network Security Services (NSS) SSLv2 buffer overflow
• MFSA 2007-01 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.8.0.10/1.8.1.2)

We use Thunderbird for an email account with a security certificate that, for some reason, is not accepted by Apple Mail. Thunderbird is similar to Apple Mail with similar features plus it has the option of a "vertical" view (i.e. the message pane alongside of the email list) available to Mail via a third party hack. We downloaded the update and installed it via Thunderbird's automatic update feature with no problems. After an hour of use with email we ran into no issues. [Bill Fox]
