A reader reported that the speaker whine associated with early PowerBase models from PowerCompting is due to a faulty audio cable to the CD ROM drive. The problem is fixed by disconnecting the cable. My whine problem was fixed by Power by replacing the motherboard so I can't confirm this fix. However, with early PowerBase warranties expiring, this fix may be the only one available.
