Advice: 3dfx Voodoo3 Cards

with their beta10 Mac drivers and OpenGL drivers from Apple provide, in my opinion, the best 3D gaming experience. There is the 143 MHz 2000 model and the 166 MHz 3000 model, both models come to fit either PCI or the newer and faster AGP slots. I have been using the bargain ($70, $99 with a $30 rebate) 2000 PCI model in my Power Mac G4/400(S) to ah... defend the Mac clan on Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament servers. I am especially drawn to those servers with anti-Mac names and slogans. I decided to see if the 3000 AGP model (now listing at $149 but available in the $120's), a faster chip with a faster interface, would aid my play which is only modestly above average after what seems like a zillion hours of battle. No such luck. I noticed no significant difference in visual quality or speed of game play. My advice is to save your money and go with the 2000 while waiting for Voodoo4 which is just around the corner. Curiously, the PCI models are getting harder to find. Perhaps it's because of the popularity of these new games and only the newer PCs or Macs have AGP slots.
