Apple Revoking MUG Licenses to Distribute Apple Updates?

From Mike Swope, "Within the last six weeks, our MUG acquired a license to distribute Apple updates on our quarterly CD-ROM. Only yesterday I received a letter from Apple that clearly states:

Because you have been licensed to distribute Apple Software as a User Group Distributor, Apple is sending you this notice concerning your User Group Software Distribution Agreement. As of October 10th, 1999, you are no longer authorized to distribute MacOS Software Updates. This letter satisfies the requirement for written notice referred to in Paragraph 2.2 of the Agreement.

This is the only notice you'll receive.

I thought you and your readers would like to learn of this situation." [My user group, Washington Apple Pi, produces a terrific CD called "Pi Fillings" that has all of Apple's software updates and much more. [Update] Dave Ottalini, a WAP VP, confirmed that WAP has received the same notice. I can't think of a good reason for Apple to do this. I have also asked Diane Cohn, Apple's User Group Program Manager, to comment.--Bill]
