Monitor Resolution Switching At Startup

--Apple claims this occurred in Mac OS 8.5/8.5.1 but it didn't on any of dozens of computers that I am personally involved with. Only my B&W G3/300 has this problem with 8.6 (it didn't with 8.5.1). Apple's solution is to use an adapter with a fixed resolution which, of course, kills a monitors ability to switch resolutions and to calibrate the color according to the MacFixIt posting. Curiously, when I installed the Game Wizard Voodoo2 card, the default startup resolution on my 19" monitor switched from 640x480 to 1024x768--I use it at 800x600 to which the monitor switches later in the startup sequence.
