"A Final Blast for 2000"

by Steve Wood. Steve takes aim at Apple for fumbling away the education market in his final column of 2000. [I agree with Steve's concerns and his analysis of Apple's faults but not his solution. The CIO type position is becoming more prevalent in school systems and this, in my opinion, is why Apple is losing and will ultimately lose the education market just like the more lucrative enterprise market. BTW, we have yet to hear from the Maryland Montgomery County Public Schools' CIO despite our letter and the Chair of the School Board's response. I suspect that we won't ever get a response because there are no reasonable answers to our questions. The motivations of a CIO to go Wintel are not in the best interest of the primary purpose of schools, education, nor in the best interests of taxpayers from the perspective of the total cost of ownership. -- Bill]
