Apple Hit with Financial Triple Whammy
Apple expects to post a $225-250 million loss, not counting investments, for the first quarter ending December 30th according to this press release. This is the first loss, and a big one, since the end of the first quarter of Steve Jobs' current tenure as head of Apple. It is due to a slowdown in the personal computer sector, a general slowing of the world economy and the Apple-specific issues (mainly the MHz gap, Cube price and education staff transition) Apple divulged when reporting in October on last fiscal year's fourth quarter.
CEO Steve Jobs is holding an all-hands meeting this morning at 9a PT in Apple's headquarters. The PowerBook Zone posted a copy of his email to employees [7:00a--Apparently, now removed.] announcing the meeting. The email includes notes used by Fred Anderson (CFO), Tim Cook and Steve Jobs during the telephone conference call with financial analysts yesterday afternoon. Here's a RealPlayer streaming audio file of the 35 minute call from ON24. Here it is by QuickTime.
