Yesterday we posted a note from a reader who feared that the Newport News Public Schools were getting rid of Macs and converting to all PCs. However, not so, we are happy to report! From Steve Devan, Operations Manager for the Newport News Public Schools:

"Far from not buying Macs, Newport News Public Schools is committed to buying 5,000 Macs over the next two years. We are aggressively installing wireless networks in all of our elementary schools and equipping them with a mix of iMacs and iBooks in an OSX server environment. We believe that the low cost wireless solution that Apple provides, coupled with an OSX managed network under MacManager, provides the greatest degree of flexibility, reliability and ease of use that we have ever found.

"In fairness to your reader, three year's ago we did make a decision to go to the PC platform. This decision was reversed when Apple once again demonstrated to us that it had recommitted to technical excellence and to the K12 education market. We now firmly believe that our decision to go back to Apple is the correct decision. And so do our elementary schools."
