Newport News, VA, Too?

From a reader, "I have been following your reports on the MD school board's replacements of Mac computers with some other sort. Although I am not well placed to know, I believe the same decision has been made by the Newport News School System in Newport News VA. I wonder whether in fact this is not a new sort of disease that may be spreading across the country." [One potential driving force is that the Census Bureau is dumping a zillion year-old PCs and servers by the pallet load for free as it completes the 2000 census this summer. Maybe some school districts are taking advantage of this giveaway. Other federal agencies get first crack at them but this leads to a domino effect that eventually delivers even older PCs but in huge and free quantities.
