Internet Explorer 5.0 Revealed

As noted Sunday on Macs Only!, IE 5 and Outlook Express v5.0.2 were released. Both were installed by simply copying the Microsoft Internet 5 folder to the hard disk and then clicking the application to open it. All the necessary extensions are installed automatically. Here is a screenshot of IE5 in Mac OS X dress (SilkyAqua v0.32 skin) and the Bondi browser color scheme:

Well, what do you think? As additional evidence that you can't please everyone, I like the interface of IE4.5 much better. The changes and new features include the Auction Manager (under the Tools menu), Internet Scrapbook, Search Assistant, a new "Tasman" rendering engine and Browser Color scheme (under the View menu).

I've used IE5 briefly and the "Back" function seems a bit slower despite the new Tasman engine but is still very fast. The huge memory leak appears to be gone. Unfortunately, I get overlapped text on this Apple page.

OE5.02 is virtually identical to OE5/5.01. Fortunately the bug that corrupted the address book in OE5/5.01 seems so far to have been fixed in OE5.02 and I can add new entries.
