Seybold--Macs OS X Public Beta Available September 13

according to Apple CEO Steve Jobs in his Special Opening Keynote address at Seybold yesterday. There was no mention of how the beta will be distributed nor whether there would be any cost involved. September 13 is the first day of Apple Expo Europe in Paris. We'll have to wait until then for any other new announcements, hardware or software, since there were no others at Seybold.

Steve Jobs ran through Apple's new hardware and iMovie 2 announced at Macworld NYC last month and with Phil Schiller did the same demo of a 500 MHz G4 comfortably beating a 1 GHz Pentium with Adobe Photoshop and the new dual G4 killing the Pentium with the same set of Photoshop operations. Adobe's Mark Emman showed off the newly announced Photoshop 6 on the dual G4. The final one-third of his keynote addressed Mac OS X and specifically its publishing features. A PowerBook running Mac OS X is supposed to wake from sleep in one second but the demo froze when Steve jobs tried it. MacroMedia's Tony Campitelli and Mike Sandmeyer demoed DreamWeaver 3 on Mac OS X. Here is a transcript of Steve Jobs' address and here are some photos.
