Mac OS 10.1 Update Free CDs Available Starting Saturday
We stopped by the Apple Store in Tysons Corner, VA, Friday evening and confirmed that the store would have free CDs available Saturday morning at 10am when the store opens. Why store employees said they had boxes of them, they suggested getting there early since "zillions" of people have already checked with the store. We will be there to check out the crowd. The Northshore (Peabody, MA) store also has boxes according to what an employee told our ace reporter, Dana Baggett. "I think Apple intended us to have enough to last for more than just tomorrow," he said.
Apple announced that the free CDs will be available through October 31st or until supplies run out. It's the last phrase in the announcement that will cause a mad rush for CDs on Saturday. However, it seems to us that Apple should continue to press CDs to make sure that everyone living reasonably near an Apple Store or AAR who needs one will be able to get one all month. But you never know....
As for AAR's, many web sites are reporting availability of the free CDs at CompUSA's. Chris Adamson was told by his local Micro Center in Marietta, GA that they currently have no copies of 10.1 for Saturday, and that if anything arrives on the truck that day, they expect it to be the full version, not the upgrade.
