300GB Fujitsu 2.5" SATA Notebook Drive May Not Fit Apple's 'Books
Earlier this week several Web sites noted that Fujitsu announced a 300GB 2.5" notebook drive that will be available in February 2007. Apple currently offers a 200GB drive as a BTO option on its MacBooks and MacBook Pros so the Fujitsu drive should increase capacity by 50 percent, right? Unfortunately, Fujitsu's fine print says that the upcoming MHX2300BT SATA drive and its cheaper 250GB cousin may be too tall for Apple's 'Books which use 9.5mm high drives. The new drives are 12.5mm tall according to Fujitsu's specifications. Of course, with the drives at only 0.5" Apple could modify the 'Books' internals so that they would fit in a 1" thick 'Book.
