Microsoft pulled latest Office:Mac Updates

Yesterday, we noted that Microsoft had posted updates for Office v.X for Mac and Office 2004 for Mac. We also noted that we had installed each and with brief testing found that no problems were encountered. Still, very early in the morning after publication time Microsoft pulled both updates.

This Microsoft Security Response Center blog post attempts to explain why the updaters were pulled. Essentially, they state that the release was a human error and if one used them that they should be uninstalled. Unfortunately, there are no instructions on how best to uninstall the errant updates.

To uninstall, one might simply delete the files that Microsoft noted were changed as we listed below and re-apply either the 11.3.0 (for Office 2004) or 10.1.8 (for Office v.X) updaters. However, we are not sure this would actually work.

We suggest doing nothing at present since both sets of Office v.X and Office 2004 applications continued to work fine for us all day after the updaters had been applied. The only risk to this that we can see is that Microsoft may stupidly re-issue the updaters with the same version numbers and they may not run, thinking the applications have already been updated.
