Mac Users are Older, More Mobile and Have Newer Computers than PC Users

According to MetaFacts 2006 Home PC Brand Profile Report, a whopping 46 percent of Mac users are age 55 and older. This compares with only 25 percent for PC users. However, you would never know it from Apple's penchant for marketing their products to the very young. Apparently, us geezers have already been sold on Macs. Of course, younger computer users and MP3 player users make up the population segment with the greatest sales growth potential--Gateway leads with the highest percentage of 18-24 year olds.

Other interesting factoids are that 52 percent of the computers in Mac users homes are notebooks while HP/Compaq households stand at 16 percent notebooks. Dells approach Macs at 46 percent notebooks.

Mac users tend to have newer computers than PC users. Two-thirds of Mac households have Macs that are 2.5 years old or newer while only half of the Dell/HP/Compaq households do. [Dana Baggett]
